What is a SMA file
Files with the SMA extension are associated with many different programs. One of the most common is the association to AMX Mod and AMX Mod X. These programs are used to create plugins that modify certain games by Valve, such as Half Life and Counter Strike. The SMA file contains source code that is used to create these plugins.
The script and code inside an SMA file is written in SmallC. The file itself, however, is a mere plain text file that can be opened using any text editing software. In order to use the plugins in the games, the SMA files have to be compiled. Once compiled, the files do not have an SMA extension anymore. Compiled files usually are either in the AMX (AMX MOD) or AMXX (AMX Mod X) format. AMX Mod X even provides a webcompiler for SMA files.
Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open SMA documents:
- AMX Mod (Windows & Linux)
- AMX Mod X (Windows & Linux)
