FFL - Find Fast Document List

What is a FFL file

FFL files are most commonly found on computers running on Windows. They belong to a number of Windows system files. FFL files are created using the search feature Find Fast that is included in the Microsoft Office pack and Microsoft Outlook, an e-mailing program. It contains a list of documents found by searching for the search term entered into Find Fast. Find Fast is used to search all Microsoft Office file types on a computer's hard drive. The index created in the FFL file helps the operating system to open the respective files faster.

The document lists saved using the FFL extension should not be manually opened. They are handled by the Find Fast control panel which both creates and updates the FFL file once a new search has been conducted. Since they function as system files on Windows, opening them can cause severe issues with your Windows session. FFL files are, typically, saved in the root directory of the hard disk. The file name is, in most cases, Ffastun.ffl

Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open FFL documents:

  • Microsoft Office (Windows)
  • Microsoft Outlook (Windows)
