ORI - Original File

What is a ORI file

ORI files are not created by one program in particular. It's rather a generic file extension that is added to original files created by a number of different applications. The extension ORI is oftentimes added to the already existing file extension. That way, it is easy to distinguish between an original file and the backup file created from it.

If the ORI file extension is added to a file, it can look somewhat like this: filename.avi.ori In most cases, the ORI extension has to be removed to open, view or use the file correctly in a program of choice. One could consider BAK files to be the counterpart of the ORI file format.

Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open ORI documents:

  • Program that created the file (Windows & Mac)
