KFX - Amazon KF10 eBook File

What is a KFX file

KFX is mostly associated with Amazon Kindle. It's an eBook format that functions as the successor of their former eBook format AZW3 which is also known as the Kindle Format 8. KFX is also known as KF10 which means they represent the Kindle Format 10. Like any eBook, KFX files contain all the content of the book, including the text and metadata such as the title, author, number of pages, and so on. KFX improved a few capabilities in comparison to older formats. This includes the improvement of character placement and word spacing, enhanced typesetting like hyphenation, and a better adaptable page layout.

Since the file format of Amazon eBooks is depending on the device used for downloading, KFX formats are available for people with newer eBook readers (as of 2020). Older devices may download the books purchased over Amazon as AZW, AZW3 or MOBI files. If you do not own a Kindle reading device, you can also open, view, and read KFX files with the Kindle app Amazon provides for Windows and Mac PC users as well as Android and iOS phones.

Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open KFX documents:

  • Amazon Kindle (Windows, Mac, Android & iOS)
  • Calibre (Windows, Mac & Linux)
