TOAST - Toast Disc Image

What is a TOAST file

Files with the TOAST file format extension are typically created by the Roxio Toast software. This software allows Apple Mac users to create exact copies of discs like DVDs and CDs. TOAST files are disc images similar to the more commonly known ISO file format which represents an exact copy of a media disc. Those files are used to store a digital backup of a CD or DVD as well as for burning a new disc with the same contents as the original.

While TOAST files are similar to ISO files in their function as disc image files, they contain specific information that is exclusive to disc images burned using the Roxio Toast or Roxio Popcorn programs. These information mostly contain formatting details. Due to this similarity, it is, in some cases, possible to rename a TOAST file extension to ISO and open the file on a Windows machine. Depending on the specific TOAST formatting of the file, however, compatibility can not be guaranteed.

Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open TOAST documents:

  • Roxio Popcorn (Mac)
  • Roxio Toast (Mac)
