KEY.ZIP - Keynote Presentation

What is a KEY.ZIP file

KEY.ZIP files are very similar to KEY files as they are both presentation formats created using Apple Keynote (Apple's equivalent to Microsoft PowerPoint). They can contain text, images, other graphics, and effects on slides, as well as transition effects between those slides. What differentiates KEY.ZIP files from KEY files is that KEY.ZIP was usually produced by older versions of Keynote from the iWork suite (roughly from those between 2003 and 2007). Nowadays, the program produces KEY files per default.

As the name already suggests, KEY.ZIP files use ZIP compression to compress the presentation. Thus, KEY.ZIP files should rather be described as archive or package files than "pure" presentation files. For usage in more modern software, the KEY.ZIP file would have to be decompressed or compressed into a ZIP file.

Here's a small, but not exhaustive list of programs that can open KEY.ZIP documents:

  • Apple iWork (Mac & iOS)
  • Apple Keynote (Mac & iOS)
  • Apple Preview (Mac)
